Trio of Herdwick Sheep in Fused Glass S-Wave

  • Glazed Expressions Fused Glass are a wife and husband team of Barbara and Kevin Maxwell who are based in the idyllic setting of Crofton Hall Stable Block some 7 miles west of Carlisle, in a modern studio situated in a courtyard of small business units which overlook the Lake District Northern Fells and is approximately 200m away from the ornamental lake of Crofton Hall.

Barbara has been a keen glass artist for many years and combines it with a daytime job in a local Health Service. Her love of glass began as a child when living in Ulverston in the south of the County, where her school bus stop was situated next to a glass blowing studio and she was inspired by the way that the light plays and refracts through glass to bring pieces to life.

The mountains, lakes and sea provided the backdrop and the flora and fauna of the countryside the inspiration to create unique pieces of art from specialist glass.

Kevin started working with glass a few years ago, but only became a full time artist in 2018 after having taken redundancy from the world of corporate IT. His work differs from Barbara by predominantly using sheet glass and enamels together with many different methods to create textures and perspective on larger pieces of glasswork. Recently Kevin has introduced glass from empty bottles into his work to encourage more upcycling.
